This session includes how to work as a mentor with diverse students while they are in nursing school and after graduation. This session will also give you guidelines for volunteering in the Career Development Center at the NSNA Convention and MidYear Conference. 1:30pm – 2:30pm Navigating the MidYear Conference and NSNA Update This workshop identifies the major highlights of the 2017 MidYear Conference and the role of the consultant and advisor at the conference. In addition, the national consultants discuss major NSNA programs and issues at NSNA today that are relevant to faculty, consultants/advisors and students. 2:45pm – 4:15pm 1.5 contact hours Master Clinical Teaching: A “Safety” Approach to JumpStart Your Students’ Success! You’ll learn the clinical instructors’ accountability and responsibility in clinical education and discuss how to set realistic expectations for novice students. This session will teach you how to incorporate the “SAFETY” structure and manage positive clinical experiences. As well, as we will review strategies how to link clinical teaching to testing success and demonstrate interactive clinical teaching strategies to advance clinical reasoning.

Topics can include increasing your chapter membership, involving students in leadership activities, getting school support for NSNA activities, fundraising and more. Moderators: NSNA’s national consultants, Cheryl Taylor, PhD, RN, FAAN, NLN appointed consultant, and Rosemary Mortimer, MS, MEd, RN, ANA appointed consultant.
5:45pm - 6:30pm Association Leadership Roundtable Discussions Board members and consultants will be available to discuss program committees and chapter affairs including Breakthrough to Nursing, Membership, Legislation Education, Bylaws and Policies, Convention Planning, Community Health/Disaster Preparedness, Image, Secretary/Treasurer, Global Initiatives, Nominating and Elections, Resolutions, and Council of State Presidents.
